Protocol Burn Taxes Overview
▼🤝 Delegation Burn
Every time someone delegates GRT to an indexer, they are charged a 0.5% delegation tax. This tax is burned to prevent gaming the protocol and ensure that delegation decisions are economically meaningful.
📈 Curation Burn
When a curator signals GRT on a subgraph to indicate its quality and usefulness, they incur a 1% curation tax. This tax is burned to discourage speculative signaling and promote thoughtful curation.
💰 Query Fees Burn
Whenever query fees are generated by consumers using The Graph Network, 1% of those fees are automatically burned. This creates deflationary pressure proportional to network usage.
🔄 Rebate Fees Burn
Whenever query fee rebates are distributed to indexers, 1% of those rebate fees are automatically burned. This mechanism helps balance the tokenomics and maintain network sustainability through controlled token deflation.
⬆️ Subgraph Upgrade Burn
When a subgraph is upgraded to a new version, GRT migrates from the old version to the new one. During this process, 0.5% of the migrated tokens are burned - 0.25% by the subgraph owner and 0.25% distributed among curators.
ℹ️ Important Note
These burn mechanisms are built into The Graph Protocol at the smart contract level and automatically execute during network operations. They serve to maintain healthy tokenomics by creating deflationary pressure that scales with network usage and participation.
